A secure home

Seth Goldstein asks;

"Is there a legitimate mechanism for me to house my data such that nobody, neither individual, corporate or governmental can access it without my consent?"

The answer is yes;

Keep it on your own computer.

The mechanism is simple, each time a website requests a profile you're asked to confirm the synchronisation, you choose if the data is persistant, if you leave it behind you should be sure how it will be used, and perhaps even what the value of your data is. The company should subscribe to the Attention Trust principles.
